For several years now I have been attending tournaments and events around the country, and often, painting was barely recognised, or at best everyone was fighting over one prize.
The plan was simple, create a trophy kit that would be readily and cheaply available to TOs and provide some simple guidelines for how to award them to your painters.
Painting an army is a long and potentially stressful commitment and therefore I felt those who achieved this task deserved something a little more for their efforts.
The Golden Thrall has so far been though three versions. The first was a set of Meow Miniatures bottles, mounted on plinths.
The original trophy set
These were then followed by the MKII set, a Privateer Press Thrall Warrior, again mounted on a plinth.
The second iteration and introduction of the Thrall.
Finally, as the idea began to take hold, I decided to get a custom sculpt coin made up, which was produced by my good friend Russ Charles. This is now produced for us by MDP (model display products) from Cardiff in Wales.
The set of coins is available from Firestorm Games. Full details of the set and how to use it will be published in a future post.
A painted set of the current Golden Thrall coins.
So, hopefully, as the Golden Thrall continues to grow and take root in the scene this site will become a gallery of winners.
If you are interested in running a Golden Thrall event, please get in touch and I can fill you in on the details. And please try to get me pictures of your winners models so we can share their excellent work.
Thanks for reading.
